Victor Borge (born 3rd January 1909) started piano lessons at the age of two and was recognised as a prodigy very soon after. By the age of eight he was a regular on the concert platform and studied under many prestigious teachers. A traditional career was diverted when he started incorporating jokes and funny routines into his shows.

Having poked much humour at Hitler and the Nazis he had to flee Scandinavia in a hurry and got the last neutral boat out of Sweden arriving in America without money and no understanding of the language.

His outstanding ability at the piano and an original stage act led to recognition and fame and a Guiness record for the longest running one-man show in the history of theatre (849 performances)

In a typical performance he would play a strange-sounding piano tune from sheet music, looking increasingly confused; turning the sheet upside down, he would then play the actual tune, flashing a joyful smile of accomplishment to the audience (he had, at first, been literally playing the actual tune upside down).
